Complete a Progress Checkpoint

How to create and complete a Progress Checkpoint for a child.

Updated yesterday

Where to find it

  1. Go to Children and open the child’s profile.

  2. Open EYFS Reports (this reflects your chosen guidance: Development Matters 2021 or Birth to 5 Matters).

Both frameworks use the same Monitoring Titles, so reports look and work the same.

Create the report

  1. From the list of reports, select Progress Checkpoint.

  2. Set the date (top left).

  3. (Optional) Edit the Report Title next to the date.

Fill in the report

  1. Enter what you know about the child. Complete Prime areas for younger children, and toggle Specific areas on when age-appropriate.

  2. For each area of learning, choose the current stage from the dropdown:

    • Area to support

    • Working towards

    • On track

    • Working beyond

  3. Use the Observations viewer (icon next to Monitoring) to see previous observations while you write—helpful for referencing evidence.

  4. Add Next Steps and Parent/Carer comments to finish the checkpoint.

Save, share, or export

  1. Save the report.

  2. If needed, click the Download icon (top-right) to export as PDF (share/print) or CSV (analysis).

Tips

  • Keep notes concise and evidence-based; reference key observations.

  • Use Next Steps to guide planning until the next checkpoint.

  • You can return and update the report if new information emerges.
